Govt tables edu tribunal bill, anticonver­sion, 8 other ordinances

LUCKNOW: The state government on Thursday tabled the Uttar Pradesh Education Services Tribunal Bill 2021 in the state assembly, along with nine ordinances, including the Uttar Pradesh Prohibitio­n of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance-2020. These ordinances were promulgate­d after the monsoon session of the state legislatur­e last year.

The state government said setting up of the education services tribunal was meant for the expeditiou­s disposal of disputes relating to teachers and nonteachin­g staff working in aided schools and colleges.

Minister for finance Suresh Khanna tabled the bill in the House.

Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma, in the statement of objects and reasons of the bill, said, “There was an urgent need to provide a mechanism for speedy resolution of their disputes in order to maintain and improve the quality of efficient functionin­g of institutio­ns of basic, secondary and higher education.”

He said, “The Uttar Pradesh Education Services Tribunal Bill 2019 was introduced in and passed by the state legislatur­e in July 2019. Thereafter, the said bill was reserved by the governor for considerat­ion of the President. The said bill is pending with the Government of India for presidenti­al assent. It has been decided to take back the said bill from the Government of India and incorporat­e certain amendments desired in it and introduce a new bill thereof.”

Principal secretary (state assembly) Pradeep Dubey read out in the House that the bill had been received for reconsider­ation with a message from the governor.

NINE ORDINANCES

The state government on Thursday tabled in the House nine ordinances promulgate­d after the monsoon session of the state legislatur­e. These include the Uttar Pradesh Prohibitio­n of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance- 2020. It banned unlawful religious conversion­s in the state carried out with the objective of converting a woman from one religion to another in cases that many right-wing outfits call “love jihad”. All such marriages will be declared null and void.

The other ordinances tabled include the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code (Amendment) Ordinance 2020, Uttar Pradesh Cinema (Regulation) (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 and the State Ayush University, Uttar Pradesh (Amendment) Ordinance 2021.
