LUCKNOW : The Lucknow University (LU) undergraduate (UG) courses may soon become of four years with the implementation of the New Education Police (NEP)-2020, LU officials said.
Lucknow University has become the first university in the state to announce a change in syllabus as per NEP-2020. The new education policy passed by the central government is set to be implemented in the university and colleges across the state this year as per the directions of the state government.
The university has already announced implementation of syllabi in all graduate courses as per NEP-2020. It first announced to implement it in postgraduate courses and discussions are on to implement it in UG courses too. “The framework for implementation of the NEP-2020 is being discussed by the academic council of the university. The implementation process will be done in accordance with the directives of the academic council,” said Durgesh Srivastav, spokesman, LU. Though the duration of the UG course may increase by a year, experts believe that it will not put extra burden on students. In fact, it could be helpful. As per plan, the syllabus will be reduced of UG courses and the students will be allowed to leave the course in between and rejoin it later. As per NEP-2020, a student will be given a diploma on completion of 2-year of a course. If 3 years are completed a degree will be rewarded while a research degree will be given on completing a 4-year UG course.
