‘Trauma centres along e-ways in UP to curb mishap deaths’
LUCKNOW: The state’s expressways will soon have trauma centres in order to ensure immediate medical assistance in road accident cases, said additional chief secretary (home) Awanish Kumar Awasthi here on Saturday.
The project would be a boon in bringing down the road fatality graph, he added. The proposal for the same was being prepared, the senior bureaucrat said. “Our aim behind setting up trauma centres at the expressways is to minimise road fatalities and to provide medical assistance to the injured within the golden hour,” said Awasthi.
He was speaking at a programme organised at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan here on Saturday to mark the culmination of Road Safety Month that was observed by the transport department to create awareness among the people. CM Yogi Adityanath had launched the programme on January 21. He, too, had expressed concern over the road accidents and had issued an appeal to follow traffic rules.
Principal secretary (transport) RK Singh stressed on the fitness of the vehicles and curbing overspeeding. “We are in plans to open machine-based fitness centres that will facilitate both electrical and mechanical checking of vehicles,” said Singh.
The transport department also launched a road safety mobile application on the occasion in coordination with NIC (National Informatics Centre) and IIT-Madras in about 16 districts of UP. The department said that efforts were being made to minimise road fatalities and black spots were being rectified for the safety of the commuters.
