PRAYAGRAJ: Body of an 11-yearold boy, who was missing for the past three days, was found in a drain behind Kanshiram Colony near Saroj crossing under Kotwali police station of Pratapgarh district on Saturday, police said.

Locals and kin of the boy staged a demonstration alleging negligence by police and demanded action against the accused.

They also blocked a busy road and later indulged in stone-pelting to prevent police from taking the body for a postmortem examination. Only after the police used mild lathicharge to chase away the protestors that the situation could be brought under control and the body was sent to the morgue, they added.

SP-Prataphgarh Shiv Hari Meena said that the situation was under control and the accused have been detained.

“Body of the victim has been sent for a postmortem examination while the accused are being interrogated,” he added.

Circle officer (City) Abhay Pandey said that as per reports, the victim had left home to play in the evening on February 17 and failed to return home. The parents approached the police on February 19 following which an FIR of kidnapping was registered at the Kotwali police station against three persons based on complaint of victim’s parents.

Victim’s mother informed the police that on February 15, a seven-year-old boy of the same locality was throwing stones when one of the stones hit the window of her house and broke the glass-pane.

The victim’s father complained about the incident to boy’s mother. However, the family thrashed the boy for wrongdoing and gave victim’s father Rs 200 as compensation for the damage done. This upset the three elder brothers of the boy, who kidnapped the victim and later killed him.

Based on the FIR, the three accused have been detained and their interrogation is presently underway, police said.
