AROUND RS 35 CR WILL BE SPENT ON NINE WORKS IDENTIFIED UNDER THE INITIATIVE, INCLUDING REVAMPING FACILITIES AT MADAN MOHAN MALAVIYA STADIUM

PRAYAGRAJ: A number of development works aimed at providing a fillip to the looks and facilities available under the Smart City initiative are all set to start in the Sangam city.

Around Rs 35 crore would be spent on a total of nine works identified under the initiative. Foremost among them include revamping the facilities at Madan Mohan Malaviya stadium and renovation of a pond at Chandrashekhar Azad Park. Prayagraj Smart City Limited has already issued a tender for these works, officials in the know about the things say.

For revamping of the facilities at Madan Mohan Malaviya stadium, Rs 76.86 lakh is expected to be spent. This amount would be spent on the repair of the stadium’s infrastructure and procurement of several new sports equipment.

“Madan Mohan Malaviya stadium will become more beautiful and additional sports equipment will also prove greatly beneficial for sportspersons using city’s only multipurpose stadium”, said mission director (technical), Prayagraj smart city project, SK Sinha.

Likewise, Rs 1.34 crore would be spent on complete renovation of the artificial pond located inside the Azad park. In addition to this, Rs 28.49 lakh will be spent on water filling infra for this pond.

Authority (PDA) had constructed this large artificial pond in 2016 as part of the modernisation plan of the park. This pond had facilities like boating, colourful fountains and live ducks. Authorities had also installed two boats with selfcleaning mechanism because there were all chances that the stagnant water of the lake would develop algae.

For filling up this around 20 feet deep lake, authorities had made provision of four bore wells around the lake. After opening, the lake functioned for around a year after which the stagnant water started developing thick layer of algae. Presently, the entire pond has dried up and the fountain and other mechanical fittings are lying defunct. The base of the lake too has developed cracks.

Others works in the list include providing sports equipment to 14 schools, setting up smart classroom in select schools, setting up new bus shelters and putting up lights at Hanuman temple and popular Hathi park.
