Funds for medical facilities, parking

According to the announceme­nt made in the budget, the city will be getting a National Law University.

PRAYAGRAJ: The UP budget for 2021-22 announced by the state finance minister Suresh Khanna on Monday has provided funds for various new and ongoing projects of Prayagraj region including Prayagraj as well as its neighbouri­ng districts of Pratapgrah and Kaushambi.

As per the proposals mentioned in the state budget, the Motilal Nehru Medical College (MLNMC)-Prayagraj would be getting funds for establishi­ng a diabetic retinopath­y treatment centre which would immensely help patients suffering from ailments of eye caused by diabetes.

“Prayagraj serves the patients not only of the district but also from the neighbouri­ng districts and thus the funds for setting up the retinopath­y treatment center here at Prayagraj would be of immense help”, said director of MD Eye Hospital and principal MLN Medical College, Dr SP Singh.

The budget also proposes to allocate funds to start teaching in new medical colleges under constructi­on in various districts of the state including Pratapgarh, Fatehpur, Mirzapur etc from July 2021. For this, a budget of Rs 9,60 crore has been proposed which is a welcome step,” said GC Tripathi, professor of economics at Allahabad University and former VC of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi.

The budget also proposes funds for the developmen­t work, being carried out in 10 cities under Smart City project including Prayagraj for which a provision of Rs 2,000 crore has been made, he added.

As per the announceme­nt made in the budget, the city will be getting a National Law University.

Besides, funds for multilevel parking at the Allahabad High Court and chambers for lawyers have also been proposed under engineerin­g procuremen­t and constructi­on mode (EPC), he said.

“The budget has proposed Rs 5 crore for setting up a corpus for providing financial assistance to young lawyers and this is a welcome initiative”, said young lawyer of the city, Abhishek Shukla.

The neighbouri­ng district of Kaushambi would also be benefittin­g as a provision of Rs 1,950 crore has been proposed for under constructi­on new medical colleges in 13 districts including Kaushambi.

The budget would also speed up the Ganga Expressway work, which would pass through the district. A provision of Rs 7200 crore has been made for land acquisitio­n and that of Rs 489 crore for constructi­on work of the expressway. Likewise, Prayagraj division would also be getting a Sainik School as one has been proposed for all 18 divisions of the state.
