₹1,950 crore earmarked for 13 new medical colleges in UP

₹50 crore for Covid vaccinatio­n; ₹175 cr proposed for medical colleges in Amethi and Balrampur dists

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked Rs 50 crore for the Covid vaccinatio­n programme in the state budget for 2021-22. Lucknow will get a Bio Safety Level 4 (BS-4) Lab under the Institute of Virology and Infectious Diseases. Also, an advanced diabetes centre will come up at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS).

A sum of Rs 1,950 crore has been proposed in the budget to start 13 medical colleges in Bijnor, Kushinagar, Sultanpur, Gonda, Lalitpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Chandauli, Bulandshah­r, Sonebhadra, Pilibhit, Auraiya, Kanpur Dehat, and Kaushambi districts.

Besides, Rs 175 crore has been proposed for establishi­ng medical colleges in Amethi and Balrampur districts.

In all, 30 new medical colleges are being establishe­d of which nine new medical colleges would start the academic session from the present year.

Sixteen districts that do not have any medical college will get the same on public-privatepar­tnership (PPP) model in Baghpat, Ballia, Bhadohi, Chitrakoot, Hamirpur, Hathras, Kasganj, Maharajgan­j, Mahoba, Mainpuri, Mau, Rampur, Sambhal, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli and Shravasti.

Besides, 45 districts will have critical care hospital blocks in medical institutes. The state has vaccinated over 11 lakh health and frontline workers. The vaccinatio­n will enter its second phase in a few days.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University (ABVMU) coming up at CG City got Rs 100 crore. An Institute of Virology has also been proposed at KGMU in Lucknow.

ABVMU will give affiliatio­n to all the medical institutes/colleges in the state and also start MBBS courses. The CG City campus would start on December 25.
