UP government makes provision of ₹ 1,175 cr for Metro projects
LUCKNOW : The UP government made a provision of Rs 1,175 crore in the state budget presented in the assembly on Monday for different metro rail projects.
There is a provision of Rs 597 crore for Kanpur metro, Rs 478 crore for Agra Metro and Rs 100 crore for Varanasi, Gorakhpur metros in the budget. However, Lucknow metro was not mentioned in the state budget.
“The allocation for Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi and Gorakhpur will give impetus to the metro projects in these cities. In all, there is a provision of Rs 1,175 crore for the Metro rail in the budget,” said Kumar Keshav, MD, UPMRC.
In Kanpur, the aim is to start commercial operations from November this year on the section between IIT Kanpur and Motijheel, he said.

reduce pollution levels. The project has two corridors: IIT-Kanpur to Naubasta and CS Azad University for Agriculture to Barra-8.
At present, work was in progress on the 23.8-km-long IIT-K-Naubasta corridor, which would have 14 elevated stations and eight underground stations. The other corridor is 8.60 km long. It will have four elevated and four underground stations. As many as four million people were expected to benefit from this rapid rail transit system.
