‘Kashi airport top ranked in country’

VARANASI: The Lal Bahadur Shastri Internatio­nal Airport (LBSIA), Varanasi, achieved the top rank for the year 2020 in ASQ (Airport Service Quality) survey by Airport Council Internatio­nal, said Akashdeep Mathur, director, LBSIA.

ASQ is the global airport survey based on measuring passenger satisfacti­on taken while they are at the airport.

Mathur said that LBSIA, Varanasi, achieved the highest ASQ rating of 4.94 followed by Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Amritsar. This ASQ rating of 4.94 is an average of four quarters of the year 2020.

Thus, the annual result of ACI-ASQ survey for the year 2020 for 22 AAI airports shows that LBSIA has achieved the 1st rank within India and ranked 29th in the world under 2 million to 5 million passengers category annually. Mathur said that the inline baggage X-ray screening system installed eight months ago ensured hassle-free screening of passenger baggage. At present, at once 15 passengers’ baggage can be screened within a minute. He said that a contactles­s thermal screening facility was also introduced at the airport. Before that a Covid help desk and screening centre with the help health department was set up at the airport that has been of great use to passengers returning to India as part of the Vande Bharat mission. Mathur said, “We ensure that our floors are properly marked to maintain safe distance while queuing. We ensure that sanitizati­on of trolleys, elevators, lifts, washrooms, luggage and chairs. Contactles­s checking of documents and thermal screening of passengers is carried out at the entry gate itself.” Mathur said, “Passengers’ satisfacti­on has helped achieve the first rank in the country in the ASQ survey by ACI. The LBSIA team is delighted over the achievemen­t and thankful to all stakeholde­rs for support.”
