Five-yr-old was killed after failed rape attempt in Shahjahanpur

LUCKNOW: A 35-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday for killing a five-year-old girl and severely injuring her seven-year-old cousin after a failed attempt to rape them, said police.

The body of the five-yearold girl was found in the fields on Monday. Her badly injured cousin was found 100 metres away from the body. She is admitted to hospital where her condition remains critical.

Superintendent of police (SP), Shahjahanpur said, “We have arrested one Anil alia Chameli Kanjad regarding the attacks on two minor cousins. The accused confessed that he lured the girls into the fields with a packet of biscuits to rape them. He attacked the girls with an iron rod when they began to cry.”

According to police, Chameli lives the life of a nomad.

He visits forests and different villages looking for odd jobs or to collect honey which he sells in the nearby towns.

According to police, he visited the village and saw the sisters playing near a hand pump. “The accused bought a packet of biscuits from a shop and went to the girls. He cajoled them to come with him for more biscuits. He then took the girls to the nearby fields on his cycle and attempted to rape the elder girl. Failing, he attacked the elder girl first. He then ran towards the younger girl who had seen him attacking the elder girl and hit her with an iron rod,” said the SP. The accused later fled from the spot. Based on a complaint lodged by the family members of the girl, police have filed an FIR of murder (302 IPC) and attempt to murder (307 IPC) against the accused.

The investigation into the matter began after the family member of the girl reached the police station on Monday evening and informed that the cousins were missing.

A search party was formed by the local police and additional force from other police stations was also sent to help. The younger girl was found at around 8 pm in a field at a distance of around a kilometre from her home. The elder girl was found three hours later.
