LUCKNOW : The Vidhan Parishad on Wednesday witnessed Opposition protests, led by Samajwadi Party (SP) members, against passage of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Tribunal Bill, 2021 supposedly “in a hurry”. The bill was passed by voice vote on Tuesday. The House could not function almost the whole day due to the din. The SP members also staged a sit-in in the lobby for hours, shouting slogans against the government.

Chairman Kunwar Manvendra Singh issued a warning to seven SP members for their “unruly” conduct in the House. Leader of Opposition and veteran SP leader Ahmad Hasan accused the government of acting against the law.

“It was already decided in the Business Advisory Committee meeting a day earlier that we will propose some amendments to the UP Education Service Tribunal Bill, 2021, but the bill, along with six others, was passed in a hurry even as we kept on demanding a lobby division,” he said.

As the House assembled at 11am, all SP members trooped into the well, shouting slogans.

Members from other parties, like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Congress, as well as teachers’ group members, all lent their support by standing up on their seats.

The situation prompted the chairman to adjourn the House till 3pm after issuing a warning to seven SP MLCs for their “misconduct” in the House.

They included Anand Bhadauria, Sunil Singh Sajan, Rajesh Yadav, Udaiveer Singh, Sanjay Lathar, Rajpal Kashyap and Santosh

Yadav ‘Sunny’.

The SP members sat on dharna in the lobby. When the House reassembled at 3pm, they resumed their protest over the same issue following which the chairman again adjourned the House till 5pm. Presiding officer Jaipal Singh, who took over at 5.10pm disposed of some agenda items within 10 minutes amid the uproar, before adjourning the House till Thursday.

Congress MLC Deepak Singh refused to speak on the motion of thanks to the governor’s address, saying the House was not in order.
