Vimlesh of SP Chhatra Sabha elected MGKV president

VARANASI: Samajwadi Party Chhatra Sabha candidate Vimlesh Yadav was elected as the president of students’ union at Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth (MGKV) election held on Thursday. NSUI candidates emerged victorious for the post of vice president and general secretary, while ABVP candidates failed to open their account.

For the post of president, Alok Ranjan of NSUI and Shashishek­har of ABVP were also in fray.

Vimlesh received 1,859 while Ranjan got 1,224 votes.

For vice president’s post, NSUI candidate Sandeep Pal with 2467 votes defeated Sanjay Kumar Yadav of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha who had to content with 1198 votes.

Shashidhar Jaiswal of ABVP failed to impress voters.

Prafull Pandey of NSUI emerged victorious for the post of student union general secretary. Pandey defeated Abhayshakt­i Singh of ABVP. Pandey secured 2,360 votes.

There were three candidates, including Aman Bhardwaj of Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha in fray for the post of general secretary. Independen­t Ashish Goswami won the post of junior librarian. He secured 2767 votes.

Two candidates, including Ankit Verma and Ashish Goswami, tried their luck for the post of junior librarian.

Election officer Prof SK Jaiswal said that election was held peacefully. A total of 4,294 out of 9,062 students exercised their franchise in the election. 48 percent votes were polled. Voting began in the morning and concluded in the afternoon. Counting of votes began at 3pm and results were declared in the evening.
