Students in UP colleges to intern with industries
LUCKNOW : Students in higher education institutes of UP will now get to intern with industries, as per an MoU signed between the higher education department and the micro small and medium industries department.
The higher education department has also decided to use the opportunity to promote the ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) scheme of the government.
Monika Garg, additional chief secretary, in a letter to the vice-chancellors of all state and private universities in the state, director, higher education and district magistrates, has directed to ensure that students are benefited by the MoU.
Industries and higher education institutes in a district will share information about new technologies and other developments on a regular basis. Students interested in gaining experience will be allowed to intern at an industry closest to their educational institute or residence. The college administration will encourage such internship and work to promote it, according to a statement by Garg.
The MoU will bring new talent to the ODOP scheme, which comprises largely of traditional craft. “Traditional crafts like chikankari, carpet making, glassware that are part of ODOP will benefit witha inclusion of new talent in the form of students under this scheme,” said the ACS.
The industries will make special arrangements for students to do research on common projects. They will also work in tandem with educational institutes for training of students.
“The department of higher education will map institutes of higher education in the district and provide this data to the district magistrate and regional higher education officer,” reads the letter. The internship of students will be done on the advice of deputy commissioner, district industries and enterprise promotion centre.
Under the MoU, the MSME department will identify products under ODOP scheme in every district and identify industries associated with it. The department will also share this data with the district magistrate.
