Jabs to 344 mark start of next phase in Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ: The next phase of vaccination drive against the coronavirus started in Prayagraj on Monday. In this phase citizens above 60 years of age and those above 45 years of age and with co-morbidities qualify for getting vaccinated, said officials.
On the first day, the district medical and health departments started the vaccination exercise by inoculating 344 persons against the set target of 300 individuals above 60 years amounting to 114.66 per cent, said Rishi Sahai, ACMO (immunisation), overseeing the Covid-19 vaccination exercise in Prayagraj.
“For administering the vaccine on the first day as a trial, three centres had been set up including one each at MLN Medical College and Tej Bahadur
Sapru (Beli) Hospital in the heart of the city and United Medicity in Rawatpur. At MLN Medical College, a total of 160 individuals were inoculated while 139 were administered the vaccine at Beli Hospital. At United Medicity, a total of 45 persons were administered the vaccine,” he added.
Dr Sahai said Covisheld was administered to beneficiaries at all three centres.
Prominent persons who got themselves inoculated included Allahabad MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Phulpur MP Keshri Devi Patel who got the jabs at Beli Hospital, UP Public Service Commission chairman Prabhat Kumar and former mayor Jitendra Nath Singh along with many former Allahabad High Court judges got the shots at MLN Medical College.
“The vaccination was done from 9am to 4pm and the vaccines reached the three centres two hours before the schedule,” he said.
“From March 4, more centres would be added and we have begun preparations in this regard. We appeal to all to make the best use of the opportunity and get vaccinated against Covid-19 virus, he added.
