LUCKNOW : Men showed more enthusiasm than women on Thursday as citizens above 60 years of age and those between 45 and 60 years with co-morbidities turned up in large numbers for Covid vaccination in Lucknow. A total of 12,773 took the jabs, of which 7,679 (60.11%) were men and 5,094 (39.88%) were women.

“The response towards the vaccination drive among the elderly was good since morning at all the vaccination centres. At some of the booths, queues were managed well by the staff. We hope this will continue in the vaccination days to come,” said Dr MK Singh, in-charge of vaccination in Lucknow.

Many senior citizens, who had been given time slots for the latter part of the day, also turned up in the morning while several who wanted to avail ‘walk in’ vaccination facility (without prior registration) also came in the morning hours. “No adverse reaction was reported after vaccination in the city,” said Singh.

Many elderly, who reached in groups for vaccination, took moments to enjoy during the post-vaccination observation period. At Era Medical college, where 641 beneficiaries were inoculated, a group of seniors took selfies and spent time chatting with each other.

Arrangements for vaccination had been made in such a manner that 60% of the Covid vaccination at the centres set up in urban areas will be done via selfregistration and the remaining 40% at each booth will be done via walk-in registration. For availing walk-in facility, a beneficiary will reach with related documents of age, identity proof and get the vaccine jab. The ratio will be 50-50 in vaccination centres in rural areas, said Amit Mohan Prasad, ACS, medical health.
