PRAYAGRAJ: The Prayagraj bandh (closure) call given by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (HCBA) in protest against the Education Service Tribunal Bill received an overwhelming response as most of the markets of the city remained closed on Tuesday.
The bandh was supported by various traders, students, teachers, employees’ organisations of the city. The call was given by the lawyers to mark their protest against the Education Service Tribunal Bill, which proposes to set up the principal seat of this tribunal at Lucknow instead of the Sangam city.
A mammoth meeting was organised at the Civil Lines crossing of the city, where apart from lawyers, traders, students, employees, teachers and others addressed the gathering.
The speakers vehemently criticised the government for transferring all important organisations from Prayagraj to Lucknow one by one, thereby reducing the importance of this historical city. They also lamented efforts to curtail the jurisdiction of Allahabad high court in the name of tribunals.
Subsequently, in a meeting of HCBA, which was presided over by the president of HCBA, Amrendra Nath Singh and conducted by the secretary Prabha Shankar Mishra, it was resolved to continue boycott of judicial work on Wednesday on the same issue.
