PRAYAGRAJ: In a first, Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) is gearing up to introduce a unique integrated (dual degree) management programme. This course will allow Class 12-pass students to enrol for a five-year course that would allow them to earn a BBA and an MBA (IT) degree after getting admitted on the basis of one admission test, said IIIT-A officials.

Being started under the national educational policy (NEP)-2020, the course ‘NEP-inspired Integrated (Dual Degree) Programme in Management— IT (IPM-IT)’ would offer students three separate exit options too: Leave with a BBA degree after three years, opt out with a post graduate diploma in management after year or stay and complete the course and earn the dual degrees after five years, they added.

The course ordinance and its curriculum have already been approved by the IIIT-A senate. “Now the proposal will be put before the Board of Governors for final approval,” said IIIT-A director P Nagabhushan.

He said the institute was also working on the admission aspect. “We are exploring existing national level entrance exams for such courses and also looking at the need and feasibility of conducting an entrance exam at our level,” he added.

“As envisaged in NEP-2020, the institute will be giving an integrated package of knowledge delivery and also skill accretions. As per NEP, we have taken calculated decision to reduce the number of hours for theory classes and instead give students time to interact and do more time for practical/experimenting,” he said.

In this new course, a student till six semesters would be equipped with the knowledge of various functional areas of management and after that would learn specialised aspects like finance, marketing, human resource management etc, officials shared.
