PRAYAGRAJ: Two-member probe panel set up by Prayagraj district administration has completed its investigation into the death of three-year-old child who allegedly died due to negligence and apathy of doctors of a private hospital in Rawatpur area some days back.

The probe committee members submitted the report to district magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami on Wednesday. The panel comprising ADM (city) AK Kanaujia and CMO Prayagraj Dr Prabhakar Rai was constituted on March 5.

ADM City AK Kanaujia said the report had been submitted to the DM for further action.

Though the content of the probe panel’s findings is yet to be formally made public, it is reported that besides apathy of the private hospital, negligence of the staff at Government Children Hospital has also been found in the case. It is alleged while the private hospital failed to admit and attend to the girl when she was rushed to it for the second time, the staff of the government children hospital failed to stop kin of the girl from taking her out of the hospital on March 4.

The girl from Karehnda village was admitted to a private hospital after she complained of stomachache while allegedly suffering from acute intestinal obstruction and was operated twice at the private hospital. Parents of the girl had alleged that the hospital doctor failed to even stitch her abdomen as they failed to pay additional money being demanded.

The child developed infection, but the hospital authorities refused to admit her again when her father took her there two days later resulting in her death the next day. The private hospital, however, has denied these allegations claiming that she was treated for 16 days at the hospital before being referred to SRN Hospital for further treatment on March 3 after her second surgery. Medical director of the private hospital has claimed the girl’s parents were charged only Rs 6,370 despite incurring a bill of over Rs 1.5 lakh which was taken care of by the hospital trust.
