Mother attacked for protesting girl’s harassment succumbs

PRAYAGRAJ: A woman succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack by her daughter’s harassers and died during treatment late on Thursday night. Three youths involved in the incident have been arrested and raids were on to nab others, police officials said.

KP Singh, IG, range, Sarvshrest­ha Tripathi, SSP, and other senior police officials visited Mauaima and met the kin of the woman on Friday.

The IG range said that an FIR has been lodged in this connection. Three youths identified as Kaisar, Aman and Nasir have been arrested while efforts were on to arrest six others. Force has been deployed in the village as a precaution­ary measure, he added.

The teenage girl, a resident of Buapur village, had gone to graze goats, when three youths of the same village passed lewd remarks and harassed her.

The girl informed her family about the incident following which her 45-year-old mother and some other relatives went to complain to the parents of the youth.

It is alleged that after an argument, the two groups clashed, resulting in serious injuries to the girl’s mother. She was admitted to SRN Hospital where she died undergoing treatment late on Thursday night.

Tension prevailed in the village after the body of woman was taken there on Friday. Heavy force along with PAC personnel was deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, administra­tion officials have assured the family of providing compensati­on.

Two boys drown in pond

Two boys drowned in a pond while bathing, in Mehjagir village, under the trans-Yamuna Manda police station area, on Friday afternoon.

According to reports, Rajesh Adiwasi’s son, Bahadur, 8 and Baliram Gupta’s son, Harish, 7, went to take a bath in the village pond without informing their kin.

The duo went into deep water and started drowning. Villagers rushed to the scene on hearing their cries and pulled them out. They were taken to Manda CHC, where they were declared dead on arrival.

Two killed in road mishaps

VARANASI: A man died and two others suffered serious injuries after being hit by a jeep on Ahraura-Shaktinaga­r road during the wee hours on Friday.

The victims were rushed to community health centre where Kallu Bind, 28, succumbed to injuries and Satyanaray­an, 35 and Babu, 22, were referred to the BHU trauma centre after primary treatment, said police.

The body was sent for a post mortem examinatio­n and efforts were on to nab the driver of the jeep, they said.
