Covid cases register a rise in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh recorded a rise in fresh Covid cases on Friday with 167 new cases reported, while the death toll reached 8743 with two fresh fatalities.

“The number of Covid cases in the state had gone below 100 some 10-days ago but again a rise is being recorded and today 167 fresh cases were reported,” said Amit Mohan Prasad, additional chief secretary, medical health.

“It is time to keep highest caution against the virus. Gram and Mohalla Nigrani Samiti had been active in the past and we need similar caution and alertness to keep ourselves safe,” said Prasad.

On March 3, there were 77 fresh cases but a gradual rise was recorded after that. The number of fresh cases went over 100 again from March 4. There were 146 cases on March 11, 128 on March 10, 151 on March 9, 103 on March 8, 117 on March 7, 131 on March 6, 128 on March 5 and 119 on March 4. On March 2, there were 105 cases and on March 1 87 fresh cases were reported.

The chief contributo­rs to fresh cases in the state are Lucknow (25 fresh cases), Ghaziabad (15), Bareilly (10), Kanpur (9), Prayagraj (13), Meerut (6), Gorakhpur (7) and Varanasi (9). In all, 34 districts reported zero fresh cases.

Lucknow and Agra reported one death each, according to the data from the state health department.

“Lucknow has reported 82084 cases till now and 80656 have recovered with a recovery rate of 98.26% in the state capital,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general, Associatio­n of Internatio­nal Doctors.

The state has till now tested 32571317 covid samples, including 90202 in the past 24 hours.

Uttar Pradesh ws the first state in India to cross 3.25 crore mark in Covid sample testing, said Prasad. Of the total 1819 active Covid cases, 802 are in home isolation and 594396 patients have recovered.
