PRAYAGRAJ: With Covid-19 cases on the rise again, police have swung into action and begun lodging cases for violation of Covid-19 protocols.

Recently on March 11, Dhumanganj police lodged FIR against a person for violation of Covid-19 protocols and Epidemic Act. As per police, over 15 persons have assembled at Peepalgaon Trisection without wearing masks. All of them fled when police team reached the scene but one of them was caught. Later another case was registered against a person under Epidemic Act at the same police station.

Regular checking for masks is also being carried out in different parts of the district including in rural areas.

Police is keeping eye at markets, commercial areas, railway stations and bus stations and at main crossings and is taking action against those found roaming in groups without wearing masks and not following social distancing and other precautions.

“Action is being taken for violation of Covid-19 protocols on regular basis and many others are warned not to repeat the offence as the cases of corona virus are on the rise,” said SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh.

Police are ensuring that people wear masks at public places and follow social distancing, Singh added.

Prayagraj police was regularly lodging cases when threat of Covid-19 was at its peak last year. Thousands of cases were registered against citizens, traders and those found organizing unnecessary assemblies without permission for not following Covid-19 protocols. However, the government declared that cases of violation of protocols during lockdown will be withdrawn.

The cases registered against traders under Epidemic Act and violating the rules will also be taken back.

As per record over 7000 cases were lodged for violating of section 144 and under Epidemic Act. After the cases of corona virus decreased, police stopped lodging FIRs and taking action against the Covid-19 protocol violators.

However, with threat of the pandemic again looming large, police has sprung into action and is keeping eye on protocol violators.
