KOTA: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped in front of her husband, who was tied with ropes, in an agricultural field along a state highway in Baran district, police said on Monday.

Police said the incident happened on Saturday night when the woman, her husband and her 8-year-old sister were returning to their house on a motorcycle after visiting Balaji temple in Baran.

A younger brother of the woman’s ex-husband allegedly raped her, a denotified tribal woman. Since four other men were with the rape accused at the time of the crime, the case was registered as a gang rape case, police said.

Investigation officer and Atru deputy SP Rakesh Kumar Sharma said, “Chhabra deputy SP Jaiprakash Atal was returning on Saturday night when he saw an 8-year-old girl waiving her hands for help. The girl told Atal that five men, including the brother of her sister’s former husband, came on two bikes and stopped their bike on Baran-Chhabra state highway in Atru area. They then took away the couple, leaving the girl on the highway.”

The woman in her FIR alleged that the five accused thrashed her husband and dragged them to a nearby agricultural field, Sharma said.

The accused tied the hands of the husband with ropes. The brother of the woman’s ex-husband raped her in front of her husband and then fled away, he said.

“Although only one person committed the rape, his four aides have been named in the rape case. The crime will be probed as a gang rape case.”

Deputy SP Atal and other policemen untied the hands of the husband and took the woman to hospital for medical examination. “The medical examination has been done and the woman’s statements were recorded. Police are searching for the accused,” Sharma said.

“The woman and her former husband’s family had earlier filed cases against each other. So police are probing the case from all angles,” he said.

On April 24, 2019, five men had gangraped a woman in front of her husband by dragging the duo to a deserted place in Alwar’s Thanagazi area. The accused had also posted the gang rape video on social media.

Alwar police later arrested the accused.

Although only one person committed the rape, his four aides have been named in the rape case. The crime will be probed as a gang rape case RAKESH KUMAR SHARMA, investigation officer and Atru deputy SP
