Panel to draw road map on research in colleges in sync with NEP

LUCKNOW: Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma has issued a directive for setting up a committee to prepare a road map on how research work can be promoted in degree colleges as part of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. The committee headed by minister for basic education Satish Chand Dwivedi is expected to submit its report in 15 days.

Sharma said this while chairing a meeting on implementi­ng New Education Policy-2020 on Tuesday evening. Additional chief secretary (higher education) Monika S Garg will be the member-secretary. AKTU vice chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak, director (higher education), Amit Bharadwaj, Prof Nishi Pandey of Lucknow University (LU), Prof Arvind Mohan of LU, and JNPG College principal JP Singh will be the members.

The deputy chief minister said the time had come to introduce uniform syllabus in universiti­es and degree colleges. He directed officials to upload details of the New Education Policy-2020 on the higher education council website. The curriculum should cover Indian values, he added.

The deputy chief minister said NEP will transform India and once again make the country a “vishwa guru” (world leader). In the meeting, a committee made presentati­on on the common minimum syllabus in higher education. A discussion was held on the compositio­n of the board of governors as well.

Sharma said, “The NEP, approved by the Union Cabinet, replaces the 34-year-old National Policy on Education framed in 1986.

It is aimed at paving the way for transforma­tional reforms in school and higher education systems to make India a global knowledge superpower. NEP is coming up with a lot of reforms and will pave the way for holistic and multidisci­plinary education.”
