Authorities gear up to make Kumbh fire-incident free
HARIDWAR: Fire safety measures are being strengthened in Haridwar’s Kumbh mela zone, where vast areas have tents and fibre sheets, to avoid any untoward incidents.
As campfires and wooden fire stoves are the routine usage of seers and religious rituals such as “hawan-yagna” going on at camps, threat perception of fire is high during the Mahakumbh fair.
A fleet of bike-borne fire personnel are also being deployed which will easily reach the congested lanes of temple, ashram, dharamshalas, hotels, lodges, guest houses, British-era buildings and congested market near Har-Ki-Pauri and adjacent Ganga ghats.
These two-wheeler fire fighters will easily approach any fire incident spot in the tent colonies of Kumbh which houses administrative, Kumbh Force personnel including para-military personnel, Shankaracharyas, Akhada seers and Kumbh administration-government department personnel.
Chief fire officer Narendra Singh Kunwar said the fire department was ready to tackle any fire related incident.
“All fire stations have been equipped with adequate personnel. Seven fire centres have already been made and similar numbers are being made at Kumbh mela area in Haridwar and Rishikesh.
From water tender, foam tender, fireman backpack motorbike fire-fighters to requisite resources fire department is well geared up for the Kumbh duty, ”said Kunwar.
Hundreds of fire hydrants are being installed across the town for round the clock supply to fire tankers during the Mahakumbh.
