PRAYAGRAJ: : Eight new professors have been appointed at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad (IIIT-A), increasing the strength of professors from six to 14 at the institution, said officials.
These eight professors, selected in open category recruitment, include three in management department, two each in information technology as well as electronics and communication, respectively. Besides one in applied science department of IIIT-A, informed P Nagabhushan, director, IIIT-A. All the eight professors were working as associate professors at IIIT-A, he added.
Vijayshri Tiwari, acting registrar, became professor in the management department while Madhvendra Mishra and Ranjit Singh from the same department have been selected as professors, he said.
Vijendra Singh and Pawan Chakraborty have been appointed professors in IT department, Nitesh Purohit and Manish Goswami in electronics and communication department while Pritish Bhardawaj in applied science department, he said.
At present, the institute, having around 2000 students, has around 109 sanctioned posts of teachers and out of which around 80 are now filled.
Post these appointments, an induction meeting was also held where newly appointed professors were welcomed by the institute.
Addressing the meeting, Prof P Nagabhushan said that with the joining of new professors the academic as well as research activities would improve a lot. All the selections were made under the four-tier flexible cadre structure as provided by government of India, he said.
Meanwhile, a special recruitment drive for reserved category was also carried out by the institute in the last few weeks where 17 assistant professors were appointed in applied science, electronic and communication, and IT departments of the institute.
