UP’s daily case count crosses 1000-mark; six more die
There are 5824 active cases, 3388 of them in home isolation

LUCKNOW : Uttar Pradesh reported over 1000 fresh Covid cases for the first time this year on Friday with the state recording 1032 instances of the coronavirus infection on the day, according to official data. There were also six deaths statewide in the last 24 hours.
It was after 86 days that the grim milestone of 1000 cases was breached. Previously, 1043 new cases were logged on December 30, 2020. Thereafter, the daily case count had remained below 1000. The caseload in the state has now gone up to 6,11,301.
Also, fifteen employees, including the deputy director, working at secondary education department’s directorate located at Park Road tested positive for Covid on Friday, prompting the district administration to seal the office, an official said.
Lucknow reported 347 fresh Covid cases, Kanpur 21, Prayagraj 44, Ghaziabad 54, Gautam Buddha Nagar 43, Meerut 46, Varanasi 45, Saharanpur 28 and Muzaffarnagar 31 in the last 24 hours. Two deaths were reported from Lucknow. One death each was recorded in Kanpur, Etawah, Bijnor and Varanasi. With this, the death toll in the state has reached 8779 since the outbreak of the pandemic early last year.
Amid rising cases of Covid-19 in different states, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said extra precaution should be taken and special vigil should be maintained in view of Holi and forthcoming panchayat elections.
Reviewing Covid-19 situation, the CM said effective arrangements should be maintained for protection and treatment of Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh.

‘Illness won’t be serious if one tests +ve after jab’ Additional chief secretary (medicases.” cal health) Amit Mohan Prasad on Friday said, “In some cases, person tested positive after vaccination, but it may be noted that despite infection, they won’t suffer serious illness. Vaccination makes you safe to fight infection.”
“Even if in 0.1% cases, a vaccination beneficiary tests positive, the illness will not be serious,” he said.
