PRAYAGRAJ: Allahabad University (AU) proctor prof Harsh Kumar has issued a show cause notice to a BCom-III student in connection with an incident of fighting among hostel inmates.

This student, who is an inmate of Sir Sunder Lal boys’ hostel of AU, has been accused of beating another inmate of the same hostel who is a student of LLB-II.

“On Thursday, I received a piece of information on my mail wherein a student had alleged that he was ragged by another inmate of his hostel while playing Holi in the hostel. Neither he had named himself nor provided the name of the fellow inmate who ragged him or for that matter even name of the hostel”, said prof Kumar.

However, on Friday, the complainant gave all details but omitted the word “ragging” and instead mentioned that he was beaten by this BCom-III student Manoj Singh on Wednesday (March 24) while playing Holi, he added.

Following the written complaint, the proctor has issued a show cause notice to Singh, asking him to be present at proctor’s office on April 1 and explain as to why he should not be expelled from hostel and AU for his act of indiscipline.

Presently, all hostels of AU or those of the trusts are closed but some of the inmates are residing in their allotted rooms despite the fact that university administration has asked them to vacate their rooms and pay a fine of Rs 5000 against the forced entry into their rooms. These inmates also played Holi in their hostels on Tuesday and Wednesday.
