Validity of DL, other transport papers extended till June 30

LUCKNOW : All transport documents, including driving licence (DL) and registrati­on certificat­e (RC), the validity of which expired on February 1, 2020 or beyond will be treated as valid till June 30, 2021, according to an advisory issued to the states on Friday. “We have received an advisory from the Centre, giving yet another extension to the validity of all the transport documents that ceased to be valid on February 1, 2020,” transport commission­er Dheeraj Sahu said. The Union ministry of transport and highways earlier issued advisories to the states on March 30, June 9, August 24 and December 27, 2020, informing them about the extension of validity of the documents related to Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Vehicles Rules,1989.

“We are issuing necessary directions to the regional transport offices (RTOs) to treat all such documents as valid till June 30 as mentioned in the advisory,” he added.

The Union ministry of transport and highways earlier issued advisories to the states on March 30, June 9, August 24 and December 27, 2020, informing them about the extension of validity of the documents related to Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and the Central Vehicles Rules,1989. It was said in the previous advisory that with respect to the validity of fitness, permits (all types), DL, RC or any other documents the extension of validity which could not be or was not likely to be granted due to lockdown and which expired since Feb 1, 2020 or would expire by March 31, 2021, the same may be treated to be valid till March 31, 2021.

“Taking into considerat­ion the grim situation still continuing due to conditions for prevention of spread of Covid-19 across the country, it is advised that the validity of all the above referred documents whose extension of validity could not be or was not likely to be granted due to lockdown and/or Covid-19 and which expired since Feb 1, 2020 or would expire by June 30,2021, the same may be treated to be valid till June 30, 2021,” the advisory said.
