Tension in Pratapgarh village after BJP man’s body found on road
PRAYAGRAJ: Tension prevailed in Pithapur Malak village of Pratapgarh after the body of a BJP booth level president, with injury marks, was found on the road on Saturday morning.
The body was spotted close to the sugarcane fields where the BJP functionary Dhirendra Bahadur Singh had allegedly intervened in a dispute between two parties, police said.
The BJP functionary’s kin alleged he was killed for trying to check two brothers Ranjeet and Vipin Saroj of Hatsara Mangapur village from stealing sugarcane from local farmer Rajan Singh’s fields in Pithapur Malak village, in Kohdaur region of Pratapgarh district.
As tension mounted, force from five police stations along with PAC personnel were rushed to the village to control the situation as angry villagers initially refused to let the police take Dhirendra’s body for postmortem examination.
They also demanded immediate arrest of the two brothers and compensation to the next of kin of the victim.
Soon, additional superintendent of police (ASP east) Surendra Dwivedi and CO (city) Abhay Pandey reached the site where they pacified the agitated crowd. They also agreed to the demand to provide compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the victim’s kin after which, the police finally managed to send the body for a post-mortem examination.
“We have registered a named FIR against two accused brothers and investigation is underway,” said ASP east Surendra Dwivedi.
