STF jungle team to nab criminals hiding in forests

PRAYAGRAJ: The newly formed jungle team of Special Task Force (STF) of Prayagraj unit is dedicated to trace out and nab dacoits, outlaws and dreaded gangsters of the region.

The team is armed with sophistica­ted weapons and trained in combing operations in forest areas, rocky terrains and impregnabl­e ravines.

The team will have special hi-tech vehicles that can move on muddy and rocky paths making it easy for them to chase the criminals .

DSP Navendu Kumar who heads the jungle team said at present it consists of 13 dedicated members and was equipped with AK-47 rifles, M5 rifles and 9mm pistols which are enough to counter firepower of any criminal gang in the region.

“The team has come into being around a month back and since then it has performed many major operations including encounters of two notorious shooters and members of Mukhtar and Munna Bajrangi gang in Arail area,” he said.

“The two gangsters opened fire on team and were killed when team members returned fire. A day back, team members traced and nabbed a notorious criminal and recovered a pistol which was looted from a sub inspector in Pratapgarh two years back,” DSP Navendu further said. “I have spent over 12 years in launching operations in forests of Chitrakoot and possess vast experience in tactics used in nabbing criminals hiding in forests, rocky areas and ravines. The team working under me will get advantage of my experience in handling operations in forest areas” DSP Navendu shared.
