Panchayat polls: Cops prepare list of possible troublemakers
PRAYAGRAJ: With panchayat election schedule announced, district police is also ready with a list of persons involved in violence during past panchayat polls. Such persons are being served notices and issued warnings against indulging in activities which may disrupt polls.
Police has also sent names of such persons to district administration. Moreover, action is also being taken against criminal elements under Gangster and Goonda Act.
Licenced firearms were also being deposited before polls. Police officials are also visiting proposed polling booths and centers in rural areas.
“Binding over order has been issued to 10271 persons who were suspected of creating trouble during polls. Bond has been submitted by them with an assurance of maintaining peace and co-operating the administration during polls. Over 50,000 more such persons in rural areas have been identified and reports about them have been forwarded to administration for taking precautionary measures,” said SSP Sarvshrestha Tripathi.
“Police has arrested 222 persons against whom non bailable warrant was issued. Under Gangster Act, 12 persons have been arrested while action against 197 persons has been taken under Goonda Act. Action under precautionary section 110 G of CrPc has been taken against 96 persons while it is in process against around 1000 anti-social elements,” the SSP said.
“12,295 licenced firearms out of total 25,000 weapons in the rural areas have been deposited. Now after festive season the process of depositing firearms will gain speed,” SSP added.
