Despite Covid-19, NCR sets many records

PRAYAGRAJ: The Covid-19 crisis notwithsta­nding, the North Central Railway (NCR) in 2020-21 has achieved best performanc­e in many fields of maintenanc­e and operations of the Railways.

Under the leadership of general manager Vinay Kumar Tripathi and meticulous planning and monitoring by principal head of the department­s (PHODs) of NCR and DRMs of Prayagraj, Jhansi and Agra, NCR has registered substantia­l growth in freight loading, originatin­g freight revenue, scrap sale, average speed of goods trains, punctualit­y, electrific­ation and other infrastruc­ture creation as compared to last year, as also the target set for the current financial year, officials said.

“Recording the best freight-loading performanc­e, in the current FY, NCR has loaded 166 lakh tonnes freight which is 18.5 lakh tonnes more when compared to last year’s loading of 147.5 lakh tonnes, and more importantl­y, 12 lakh tonnes more than previous highest loading of 154 lakh tonnes achieved in 2018-19,” said Ajeet Kumar Singh, chief public relations officer (CPRO), NCR.

With 12.5% increase, the NCR is 4th among all zonal Railways with respect to percentage improvemen­t in originatin­g freight loading over last year. Through this loading performanc­e, NCR has earned originatin­g freight revenue of Rs 1726.29 crore surpassing previous year freight revenue of Rs 1530.28 crore by Rs 196 crore, he added.

Apart from substantia­l growth in freight loading, in 2020-21, NCR also recorded the highest revenue from scrap sale of more than Rs 265 crore.

This is not only the highest revenue through disposal of unservicea­ble materials. The second highest figure (last year’s scrap sale revenue) is less by Rs 40 crore.

Additional­ly, revenue of Rs 45 cr over the target of Rs 210 crore set for this FY was earned, the CPRO said.

Besides, NCR also registered quantum improvemen­t in average speed of goods trains and punctualit­y performanc­e of coaching trains.

During the current FY, NCR has maintained punctualit­y of 86.7%, thus, attaining an improvemen­t of 57% over punctualit­y of trains achieved in FY 2019-20, he said.
