LUCKNOW : Ruchi Agarwal, 38-year-old wife of businessman, was stabbed to death by a carpenter working at her house in Vishwas Khand, Gomti Nagar here on Wednesday afternoon, said police officials. They said the accused attacked the woman with a sharp-edged instrument used for carpenter work after she refused to give him money in the absence of her husband.

The incident held in the presence of the woman’s two minor daughters, aged 17 and 14, at around 2pm when her husband Harsh Agarwal was not present at home. The police said Harsh Agarwal was at his office in transport nagar.

Inspector of Gomti Nagar police station KK Tewari said the accused Gulfam, the resident of Thakurganj, has been arrested but the weapon used in the crime has not been recovered so far. He said the efforts are on to recover the weapon and the accused is being further quizzed about the motive behind the crime.

A local sub-inspector, who is privy to the investigation, said the woman’s daughter told that Gulfam was doing carpenter work in the house for past one month. He said the carpenter demanded some money from the woman which she refused stating that her husband will make payment. He said the carpenter asserted to give him money and got annoyed when she refused.

He suddenly became violent and stabbed her. The sub-inspector said the primary examination suggested that the woman was stabbed thrice on chest, face and stomach.

He said the carpenter also moved towards the woman’s daughters, but they saved themselves by locking their room. He said the accused fled from there after committing the crime and was arrested later from his hideout.

He said the woman was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia hospital with the help of neighbours after the incident, but she was declared brought dead. He said the woman’s husband has lodged an FIR of murder under IPC section 302 against the carpenter in this connection.
