PRAYAGRAJ: Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Pramod Tiwari claimed that ‘jungle raj’ was prevailing in UP instead of ‘Ram Rajya’.

His reaction came after a Youth Congress leader Mohd Akram, 30, was shot dead in Kanihar village in Prayagraj late on Tuesday night allegedly over a land related dispute.

“Criminals are striking at will and the state government has failed to tackle the deteriorating law and order problem,” he said. The senior Congress leader also demanded that the state government extends Rs 1 crore compensation to the kin of the deceased Congress leader and ensure the arrest of killers at the earliest.

Congress leaders and workers assembled outside the postmortem house on

Wednesday to console the family members of the slain Congress leader and had an exchange of heated words with police officials present on the spot.

Meanwhile, police said the investigation revealed that a property dispute led to the killing of the local Congress leader. His family members alleged involvement of the deceased’s maternal uncle in the crime.

The Youth Congress leader was targeted by assailants when he was going to a local grocery shop.

Family members alleged that the police did not take appropriate measures despite the Congress leader apprehending threat to his life and alerting cops in this regard.

They also claimed that an attempt on his life was made in February but he had a narrow escape. Following the incident, the family members then lodged a complaint with the local police and alleged that no action was initiated.
