Funds sanctioned for developmen­t of cremation sites in Lko

LUCKNOW : All the cremation sites in Lucknow would be developed, beautified and made people friendly. The minister for urban developmen­t Ashutosh Tandon ‘Gopalji’ has sanctioned Rs 8.30 crore for the purpose.

Cremation grounds at Lucknow including the Baikunth Dham (Bhaisakund), Baikunth Dham (VIP Road Alambagh) and Gulalaghat cremation site would undergo renovation with these funds, the minister said.

“Many cremation grounds lack facilities like proper lights, water, toilets and rest rooms. All that would be taken care off with these funds,” he said.

One more electric cremation site at Baikunth Dham, Bhaisakund would come up, the minister said adding that additional road parking would be created.

At these cremation sites, works of public utility would also be constructe­d, the minister said adding that Rs 4.45 crore have been set aside for the purpose and of which Rs 2.2 crore would be released instantly.

The cremation site at Alambagh would be beautified for Rs 1.89 crore and of which Rs 94.6 lakh has been released. Developmen­t work will also be done at Gulala ghat cremation site in Chowk. For this Rs 1.95 crore has been sanctioned and of which first installmen­t of Rs 97.85 lakh has been released.

Lakhimpur Kheri A married couple were allegedly shot dead over illicit relations in Islamabad locality of Mohammadi town of the district on Wednesday night, police said. The deceased were identified as Ramkrishna (45) and his wife Guddi Devi (35). The alleged accused identified as Indrapal is absconding. Kheri SP Vijay Dhull has deputed a crime branch team to trace and nab the accused.

Mohammadi police said the son of the deceased lodged a first informatio­n report (FIR) against Indrapal under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. As per the police, alleged extramarit­al affair of Indrapal with Ramkrishna’s wife led to the crime. --Deokant Pandey
