Sensationa­l murder had sent shockwaves across Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: Murder of renowned surgeon Dr AK Bansal in his Jeevan Jyoti hospital on January 12, 2017 had sent shockwaves in Sangam City. Despite limelight, Prayagraj police had, however, failed to identify the shooters. The murder had instilled fear among doctors of the city.

Dr AK Bansal’s wife, Vandana Bansal has been demanding early workout of the case and has also written to the chief minister and senior officials for a CBI inquiry into the case.

“If police have workout the murder of my husband the good work should be appreciate­d,” said Dr Vandana Bansal on coming to know about the developmen­t through media.

Alok Sinha, the alleged admission mafia who is the prime accused in the case, was on police radar since the murder took place. Investigat­ions have revealed that Sinha has taken Rs 55 lakh from Dr Bansal for his son’s admission. Dr Bansal lodged an FIR against him at Civil Lines police station after Sinha embezzled the money. Sinha was arrested and sent to jail. However, he disappeare­d after being released on bail.

STF officials also claimed that murder of Dr Bansal was planned inside jail by Sinha with the help of Dilip Mishra, the notorious gangster and prime accused in the attack on cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi and another criminal Akhtar Katra. Atiq’s henchmen Zulfiqar aka Tota and Gulam Rasool were also present when Sinha expressed his intentions to kill Dr Bansal at the barrack in Naini Central Jail.

The police had circulated posters of the shooters based on CCTV footages at the hospital and even declared a reward of Rs 50,000 to person who give informatio­n about them.

Dr Bansal was at his chamber when two shooters entered the hospital from the back entrance at around 7 pm on January 12, 2017. One of them went inside the chamber and opened fire on DR Bansal with a close range.

Two bullets hit Dr Bansal in his head, and he collapsed. The shooters then fled from the same route. Despite all efforts by doctors, he could not be saved.

The incident caused concern among other renowned doctors of the city. They demanded early workout of the case along with adequate security for them. Many deployed private security guards for their safety.
