Moot court to prepare cops discharge their magisterial duties
VARANASI: Senior police officials at Commissionerate of police in Varanasi will attend a moot court that will help them discharge their magisterial duties in a proper way.
The first session of the moot court will be held on Wednesday. It will be organised on the premises of the court of commissioner of police which is being set up in a building in reserve police lines.
The moot court initiative is a brainchild of commissioner of police, Varanasi, A Satish Ganesh.
Senior police officials, including additional commissioner of police (ACP), deputy commissioners of police (DCPs), ADCPs and assistant commissioners of police will attend the sessions in the moot court as a trial to deliver their magisterial duty.
Ganesh said there would be argument in the moot court like real court.
Lawyers will come and argue for their clients. Officers in the court would listen to the case. All five sessions will have same exercise.
Ganesh said the whole exercise was aimed providing a platform to all the senior police officers of Commissionerate of police, Varanasi (who have to deliver duty of executive magistrate) to have a proper idea of delivering their magisterial duty before the court of commissioner of police starts functioning properly.
The commissioner of police will attend the opening session of the moot court.
Five sessions of the moot court are likely to be completed this week.
“The court of Commissioner of police will start functioning soon after the five sessions of moot court are over,” Ganesh said.
He inspected the building in which the court of CP is being set up and instructed the officials to complete the task of installing equipment at the building of the court so that the court may start functioning as early as it as possible.
He also inspected crime branch, crime branch research wing, deputy commissioner of police Varuna zone office, officer of additional CP law and order additional CP protocol and assistance commissioner of police Cant.
