‘PRAYAGRAJ WITNESSING SHORTAGE OF COVID-19 VACCINE DOSES’
PRAYAGRAJ : Stock of Covid-19 vaccine doses are running short in Prayagraj district and unless fresh stock arrives in a day or two, the vaccination exercise could get impacted, warn officials, requesting anonymity.
In a bid to control the use of available stock, already the vaccination has been stopped at primary health centres in rural areas.
“Only Community health centres in these areas are continuing to vaccinate people,” they added.
To effectively take on Cobid-19 outbreak, vaccination was started at 61 PHCs of the district in March.
However, on Wednesday, vaccinations by these centres were stopped till further notice.
As a result, now just the 20 community health centres s are administering the vaccines, said district health officials aware of the development.
Covid-19 vaccination nodal officer Dr RS Thakur conceded that the vaccine stocks were low in the district and because of it the vaccination for the time being would not be done at the primary health centres .
However, this is a temporary situation and as soon as fresh stock of vaccines arrive, we will re-start the vaccination at primary health centres also, he added.
He said last week Prayagraj had received 42,000 doses of Covishield which are being administered and fresh stock of Covid-19 vaccines was expected within 48 hours.
District vaccine nodal officer Dr Tirthlal said that presently, Prayagraj had 9,500 doses of Covishield and 6,500 doses of Covaxin which were enough for next two days.
“A demand for fresh doses has been placed and we are expecting the fresh stock to arrive soon,” he added.
