Curtailed marriage functions; many bookings cancelled in Prayagraj

PRAYAGRAJ: With night curfew coming into effect from 9pm to 6am in the city, marriage hall owners have urged their clients to end their ceremonies and functions before 9pm. Moreover, they are also cautioning them to ensure all precaution­s as per Covid-19 protocol for the events; otherwise, they may face serious action by district administra­tion.

Night curfew order has started affecting the marriages, which usually take place during nighttime, as no marriage hall owner is now ready to allow marriage functions to continue after 9pm.

Wedding hall owners are also cancelling the bookings or either asking the people to complete all their ceremonies before 9 pm and vacate the premises. While many marriage functions have already been cancelled and postponed following the rising number of corona cases in the city.

A guest house owner in Kareli area, Mohd Haris said that he cancelled the marriage booking which was to take place during nighttime soon after the night curfew begins. “Many people have also cancelled their function due to outnumberi­ng of guests, which is fixed between 100 and 200, depending on the area of the premises,” he added.

Haris said the marriages during the daytime are taking place with all precaution­s but those who have booked the guest house for night functions have been asked to complete all ceremonies before 9 pm. Moreover, they have been asked to limit the number of guests and follow all Covid-19 protocols, including wearing masks and use of sanitizers, he said.

SP City Dinesh Kumar Singh said in view of the night curfew, no functions would be allowed to take place after 9 pm. Appropriat­e action would be taken against those found violating the guidelines issued by the district administra­tion, he added.

Besides, cops have also warned the tea stall and eateries’ vendors not to allow assembly of people. Guest house owners too have been asked to cooperate and not allow any functions after 9 pm.
