Prof Seema Singh takes charge as first woman VC of UPRTOU
PRAYAGRAJ : Noted academician and a senior faculty member of Education faculty of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi prof Seema Singh took charge as the first woman vice-chancellor of UP’s lone state open varsity—Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi State Open University (UPRTOU)-Prayagraj at its Phaphamau-based campus here on Tuesday.
She took charge from the present VC of UPRTOU prof KN Singh in presence of varsity registrar Arun Kumar Gupta.
After taking charge prof Seema Singh said that digitalization of various functions and resources of the university would be her priority. She said that audio and video versions of lectures would be prepared and uploaded on the official website of the university for the benefit of the students spread across the state so that they can access digital resources for their studies.
Prof Singh said non-active centres of the university would be closed down and those functioning well would be further strengthened.
Later, the new VC held talks with senior officials of the university, including registrar Arun Kumar Gupta, finance officer Ajay Kumar Singh, director of management studies wing prof Omji Gupta, director of agricultural science education wing prof PP Dubey among others and discussed ways in which the university can be taken forward and evolved into a model university of the state.
She later also visited various offices and departments of the varsity.
UP governor Anandiben Patel in her capacity as the chancellor of the university, had issued orders of prof Seema Singh’s appointment as the new VC of UPRTOU on April 12.
Prof Seema Singh, who specializes in the field of special education and educational psychology, has been appointed to the post for a period of three years from the date of taking over the charge.
