PRAYAGRAJ : A 24-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband at Shramik Basti under Naini police of the district late on Wednesday night, police said. The accused hanged the body from the ceiling in a bid to cover up his crime, they added.

Based on the statements of children and injury marks on woman’s body, the accused was taken into custody and was being questioned, the police said. Station house officer (SHO), Naini, Sunil Kumar Vajpayee reached the spot and carried out investigation.

As per reports, Ankur Shukla of Shramik Basti was married to Shilpa Tiwari in 2014 and they have two children aged 5 and 3. Ankur used to work in Noida while Shilpa used to live with her children and father-in-law Ranjeet Shukla. It is reported that Ankur had come home on leave around a week back.

The couple had a scuffle over some issue. It is alleged that after an argument late on Wednesday night, Ankur brutally thrashed Shilpa with sticks resulting in her death. However, in a bid to pass off the murder as a suicide, Ankur allegedly hanged Shilpa’s body from the ceiling through a cloth. Ankur then raised an alarm in the morning.

Police grew suspicious when injury marks were found on Shilpa’s body. SHO Sunil Kumar Vajpayee said Shilpa’s son informed the police that his father had assaulted his mother late in the night.

Further action will be taken after receiving complaint from the woman’s kin, the SHO added.
