TRADITIONA­L ‘JOSHANDA’ IN GREAT DEMAND

PRAYAGRAJ: With the rising Covid cases, people have once again turned towards herbal medicines. Ayurvedic Unani ‘Joshanda’ a mixture of several herbs is in great demand for its properties .

Unani Hakeem Rashidul Islam says ‘Joshanda’ is prescribed by Ayurveda and Unani doctors for thousands of years for patients with fever, cough, chest congestion and running nose. It is a mixture of medicinal herbs like Banafsha, unnab, dalchini, gaozaban etc. Unani Medical Council in recent research has also suggested using ginger, saunf, kali mirch and ilayachi in ‘Joshanda’.

It should be boiled extensivel­y before consumptio­n. The more it is boiled, the more it is beneficial to patients. ‘Joshanda’ should be given thrice to patients suffering from fever, cough etc. Moreover, the steam of ‘Joshanda’ is also very beneficial to patients, Hakeem Rashidul Islam further said.

As per the Ayush department’s new guidelines, Unani medicines Khmira gaozaban Saada, khamira sheer unnab wala, sherbet unnab and sherbet nilofar along with hai khuda khayash ambar etc are also suggested to patients with fever and other symptoms.

Rashidul Islam who also runs two Unani medical stores informed that large numbers of people are turning up at the stores for buying Ayurveda and Unani medicines. ‘Joshanda’ is in great demand and is continuous­ly prepared and sold to consumers who are suffering from fever, cough etc.
