LUCKNOW: North Eastern Railways (NER) and Northern Railways (NR) have banned the sale of platform tickets to regulate the entry of passengers at platforms and station premises.

“These are tough times and hence we are roping in all measures to curtail the crowd, so that social distancing can be maintained in an efficient manner,” said Mahesh Gupta, public relation officer (PRO), NER, Lucknow Division.

Gupta said since the sale of platform tickets has been banned; now the train passengers having genuine tickets would only be given entry to the station premises.

The family members have to see off their loved ones at station’s main gate, he said.

Earlier, Railways had increased the price of platform tickets to Rs 50 in order to discourage the entry of people at platforms.

However, the pandemic is now taking its toll, it has been decided to ban the sale of platform tickets.

Similar to NER, NR too has banned the sale of platform tickets at Charbagh Railway Station.
