Deoria man slapped with ₹10K fine for not wearing facemask in open

LUCKNOW: Deoria police on Monday issued a challan of Rs 10,000 to a man, first time in Uttar Pradesh, for not wearing facemask while moving at public places.

He was a repeat offender and was also fined earlier for the same offence, said officials.

“Amarjeet Yadav, resident of Mahui village in Deoria district, was slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 for not covering his face with mask while moving at public places in Laar town of the district.

Earlier on April 18, the police had also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Yadav, for not using mask in public places,” said superinten­dent of police (SP), Deoria, Sripati Mishra.

To check the spread of Covid infection, the state government has announced that a first-time offender would be levied a fine of ₹1,000 but thereafter, the individual would have to pay a penalty up to ₹10,000 every time he or she is seen without a mask, he said.

said that Yadav is the first person in the state to be slapped Rs 10,000 as fine for not covering the face with mask and repeating the offence.

The SP said, the police handed over a challan receipt of Rs 10,000 to Yadav and asked him to move out of his house only after covering his face with mask.

Till Monday, the police penalized 331 people and collected Rs 3.31 lakh penalty from the violators, he said.
