LUCKNOW: Two people including a Mau woman doctor and her brother were arrested by the Barabanki police on Tuesday morning for their alleged involvement in the fake registration of a luxury ambulance used by Mafioso turned politician Mukhtar Ansari for transportation to court and other places while being lodged in jail, said Barabanki police officials.

Barabanki Superintendent of Police (SP) Yamuna Prasad confirmed that the Mau based Dr Alka Rai on whose named the ambulance was registered from Barabanki and her brother Shesh Nath Rai, who was guarantor, has been arrested on the basis of findings surfaced up in so far investigation.

The SP stated Dr Alka Rai had confessed in her statement that the ambulance was purchased on behest of Mukhtar Ansari and left for his usage. He said the role of Dr Rai was also confirmed by the statement of Ansari’s aide Rajnath Yadav who was earlier arrested in the matter in April first week.

He said the investigation revealed that the documents used for the ambulance registration had genuine signatures of Dr Alka Rai. He said Dr Rai’s Shyam Sanjeevani hospital in Mau district and her voter ID card was used for the ambulance registration.

The official said the doctor and her brother were in the knowhow of everything.

The ambulance was fraudulently registered in Barabanki district since December 2013 in the name of Dr Alka Rai. The Barabanki police had registered an FIR against Dr Rai on April 1 after the documents of the Uttar Pradesh registration luxury ambulance, used to transport gangster-turned politician Mukhtar Ansari to a Mohali court in Punjab on March 31, were found to be fake.

The FIR was lodged with the city kotwali police of Barabanki district on the complaint of Barabanki assistant road transport officer (ARTO) Pankaj Singh. On April 3, the Barabanki police authorities constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case. The SIT has been formed under the supervision of an additional SP rank officer who is investigating every aspect of the case.

Ansari, who is presently lodged in Banda jail since April 9, after been brought back to UP jail on Supreme Court order, is also made accused in the case later during the investigation.
