Don’t prescribe Remdesivir unnecessar­ily: Kashi DM

VARANASI : District magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma on Tuesday said the Remdesivir injection will be made available to patients who need it but care should be taken to ensure that it is not prescribed unnecessar­ily.

He held a meeting with the in-charges of different government and private hospitals. Sharma said doctors at the hospitals are prescribin­g Remdesivir injection due to which people are running to market to buy it even when it is not available at medical stores due to limited supply.

He said in case any patients admitted to the hospitals need this injection one should send name of the patient and hospital, oxygen level, mobile number and address to in-charge officer

Dr Sanjai Rai. It will be made available. Injection should not be prescribed unnecessar­ily. On availabili­ty of the injection hospitals will be informed. He said that several complaints related to selling injection at very high prices and black marketing were had been received.

He said 1296 injections were made available to the hospitals on Monday and before that 269 injections were made available to the hospitals on Sunday.

The cost of the injection is Rs 899. If any hospital takes more money than prescribed price from patients, then strict action will be taken against them, he added. He said that a number of steps had been taken to maintain regular supply of oxygen cylinders and their refilling.
