Dr Kafeel writes to CM, seeks reinstatement

-

LUCKNOW : Dr Kafeel Khan, the suspended paediatrician of Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, Gorakhpur, has written to chief minister Yogi Adityanath urging him to revoke his suspension so that he may use his medical experience in serving Covid patients amid the second wave of the pandemic.

“I had released a video about Covid pandemic in January last year. I had said that in view of the density of population, poverty and poor health facilities, the community transmission of the coronavirus could not be checked. Now the government should work to protect the lives of the infected people as death of a family member is a big loss for the family,” he said. He was suspended after he was accused of medical negligence in an August 2017 oxygen shortage tragedy case that resulted in deaths of many children at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur.

In the letter, Dr Kafeel said he had 15 years’ experience in managing the patients admitted in intensive care unit. He also said he was willing to serve the Covid patients admitted in various hospitals. The state government can suspend him again once the second wave of pandemic was curbed, he said.
