Four injured in group clash over panchayat poll issue

PRAYAGRAJ: : At least four persons were injured when two groups clashed over an issue related to panchayat polls at Chaksara village under Raniganj police station of Pratapgarh district on Wednesday morning. The injured were admitted to the hospital.

According to reports, supporters of the two panchayat poll candidates had an argument on Wednesday morning. Some people tried to pacify both the groups, but in vain. Soon the two groups attacked each other with sticks and rods. Someone also fired shots during the clash which resulted in injuries to Qayam, Zafrul Sheikh, Arif and Khalid.

Police reached the spot after receiving informatio­n and admitted the injured to district hospital. Raniganj SHO Pawan Trivedi said investigat­ions were being carried out into the incident.

In another incident at Isipur village in Pratapgarh, panchayat poll candidates Arun Singh and Vidya Singh along with their supporters clashed late Tuesday night. Four persons were arrested in this connection.

Youth held for posting morphed photo of Dr BR Ambedkar

Jhunsi police on Wednesday arrested a youth for allegedly posting a morphed photograph of Baba Saheb Dr BR Ambedkar on social media site with obscene comments. An FIR was lodged against the accused under IT Act and other relevant sections of IPC, police said.

SP (Trans-Ganga) Dhawal Jaiswal said Jhunsi police have registered an FIR after receiving a complaint of a morphed photograph of Ambedkar being circulated on social media with obscene comments.

After investigat­ions, police traced the youth who posted the photograph and comment. The accused, identified as Aniket Kumar, 24, of Durjanpur village of Jhunsi, was arrested on Wednesday. His mobile phone used in the crime has also been seized.
