All shops of Banarasi clothes to be closed from Apr 26 to May 2

VARANASI: The Banarasi Vastra Udhyog Associatio­n on Saturday announced that all shops of Banarasi textile will remain closed from April 26 to May 2 in view of spread of Covid-19 in the city.

Associatio­n’s general secretary Rajan Bahal said the decision was taken in a virtual meeting chaired by associatio­n’s president Jagdish Das Shah.

“The severity of the pandemic is increasing. It is spreading fast. That is why the shops of Banarasi clothes, including Banarasi sarees, would be kept closed for a week from April 26,” he said.

Bahal said all businessme­n of unanimousl­y agreed to the decision. All business activities of Banrasi textile industry will also remain suspended for a week.

“Keeping shops closed will help break chain of the spread. As the shops will remain closed, traders would stay at home which is a way to avoid contact with the crowd and keeping corona infection away,” he said.

Bahal said the associatio­n’s patron MLC Ashok Dhawan helped out several people and got their problems addressed.

Bahal said there was crisis of beds and injections in hospitals. So it was better to stay at home and stay safe.

Office bearers of the associatio­n unanimousl­y said, “Our first priority is to protect ourselves. If we stay healthy, we will work hard and compensate the business losses when the situation gets normal.”

Several businessme­n, including Ashok Dhawan, Narottam Aadhatiya, Rajendra Kapoor, Rajan Bahl, Harimohan Sah, Sarvesh Aggarwal, Bhupendra Walia, Haji Rab, Rakesh Vasistha, Vijay Kapoor, Devendra Pathak, Rajendra Mehra, Gautam Tandon, Gurupreet Rupani, Pawan Modi, and Mukund Lal Tandon attended the virtual meeting.
