4 killed, seven injured in smash-up
VARANASI: Four persons were killed and seven others injured when a truck rammed into three SUVs parked along the Mohammadabad Gohna-Chiraiyakot road under Jahanganj police station area of Azamgarh district during wee hours of Saturday, police said.
The incident took place when the people were returning home after attending ‘tilakutsav’, a marriage-related function.
A senior police officer said that 20 persons went to attend the function in Tekari village of Mohammadabad Gohna area in Azamgarh from Lohrapur village in Mardah area of Ghazipur. On their way back to Ghazipur, they parked their vehicles near Suhval Chatti. Even before all the passengers could come out, a truck coming from the opposite direction rammed into all three SUVs one after another. Four persons on board the Scorpios and seven others suffered injuries.
The officer said the police team reached the spot and rushed the injured to the primary health centre from where the doctors referred them to Trauma centre in BHU in view of their serious condition. Four others are stated to be in critical condition.
The deceased were identified as Ramcheej Singh (70), Sachhida Singh (52), Janardan Singh (60) and Mallu Sharma (19).
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death of people in a road accident. He expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the dead.He instructed senior officers of the district administration to reach out to the spot to help the victims in every possible way and to provide proper treatment to the people injured in the accident.
